Culinary Arts

1.    A completed Johnson & Wales High School Chef of the Year Recipe Contest Entry
The packet must be ready to enter into the contest and follow all guidelines set by the university.  Details at: www.jwu.edu...
(website subject to change).  Entries may be submitted after final portfolio has been presented.

2.    A collection of 25 pictures documenting your culinary experience at BCHS
Collect 25 pictures that document your culinary experience at BCHS. Then, choose 5 out of the 25 pictures that best capture who you are as a culinary artist. These carefully chosen pictures will serve as the “material” from which you will synthesize your entire culinary experience into a well-developed essay.

3.    A detailed event plan
This portfolio entry should include all of the various elements required to plan, promote, and execute a successful event.  Students will demonstrate proficiency in various Microsoft Office programs:
•    Microsoft Excel – used to price a menu and cost items
•    Microsoft PowerPoint/Publisher – used to develop promotional materials
•    Microsoft Word – used to write and edit memos, to-do lists, and reflections
•    Microsoft Picture Manager – used to edit and create photo documentation

Culinary students will be able to use their plan to properly create and execute an event of any type or size.  Learning the fundamentals of management and design are critical to successful endeavors.  This building block is one of the key components to a solid culinary foundation and ties together practical and classroom experiences from all four years of schooling.
