In geometry the class was assigned a project to choose a window mounted room air conditioner. The objective was to calculate the room air conditioner capacity needed (in Btuhour) to cool a dentists waiting room shown and to select the appropriate size window mounted air conditioner from the table provided. In order to do this I had to match the total area to an appropriate Btuhour using a conversions table given to us by our teacher. Then I had to review a list of conditioners and required adjustments to the Btuhr value that might pertain to the situation and adjust the capacity needed value accordingly. Lately I had to decide which air conditioner from the table provided would be an appropriate fit. For this project the tools I used included a packet given to the class by our teacher and a calculator to calculate our information. I had a difficult time calculating the total area of the dentist waiting room because first I had to divide the room into different sections to calculate each area separately before adding them all together to find a final total area. Overall I think I did very well to listening and following direction and finding which air conditioner fit best. In the future I hope to listen just as well to directions so I can understand the material. The standards for this project were to use units as a way to understand problems and to guide the solutions of multi-step problems and choose and interpret units consistently in formulas. I believe that I hit these standards.

Standards Assesed:

  • N.Q.1- Use units as a way to understand problems and to guide the solution of multi-step problems and choose and interpret units consistently in formulas.

For this project I received a grade of 100. I agree with this grade because I followed all the steps and all my work was complete and correct. If I were to do this project again I would spend more time making my work neat and more presentable before handing in for a final grade. I believe that I did very well on this project based off of my score which was perfect. In the future I hope to work hard and do just as well on other projects and other major assessments.
