This is my Color Theory Final piece. This assignment was given to us by Mr.LeClair in early may, and was due on the 24th of June. The assignment was to choose a pet of ours and to sketch it in full color. to begin the assignment, we had to obtain a picture of a pet that we had and draw an outline sketch on regular sized paper using ebony pencils. After we had completed the sketchbook drawing, we had to show Mr.LeClair and await his approval. After Mr.LeClair had given us the okay, we were given a much larger sheet of paper to work on. It was on this piece that we completed the assignment. We first, drew an outline of our pet, so that we knew where to start, and then laid the base tone on the paper. After we got the base tone down, we started adding detail, and then the darker colors of the piece.

We used many very few materials on our final pieces. To begin the assignment, we used different shades of ebony pencils to draw a monotone sketch of our pet. On the larger piece of paper, we used many different colored pencils made by the company Prisma Color. Other than the colored pencils, and graphite pencils, we used nothing other than our picture and the paper supplied.

Out of all of the pieces that I have completed this year, this is by far one of my favorites. I do not normally work with color, so this was a great learning experience. I learned how to use colors to create other colors, how to shade using colored pencils, and I gained an understanding of how colors work. I am proud of the proportions of this piece. I began the assignment by creating a 4x4 grid using a yardstick, so I could place everything withing a close proximity of where it should have been. I am also very pleased with how the feathers came out. The color that I needed to make was very difficult to create. To make the dark blue that my parrot is, I used two shades of blue as well as green and red. the feathers are by far my favorite part of this piece. Although this piece can be improved greatly, I am still happy with the end result. As somebody who rarely works with color, I feel as if I did fairly good.

Some of my dislikes are how the assignment came out as a whole. I did spend a lot of time drawing the feathers, but about halfway through, I became tired of the work and began to rush. As a result of rushing the feathers, they look messy and unnatural. I am also unhappy with how the two sides of the drawing do not compliment each other. The feathers are dark and very rough, where the beak is a soft, smooth shade of yellow. I would be happier if the drawing was all one style, rather than two.
