Event Reflection for Visual Arts

This year I attended the Providence Street Painting Festival with some of my peers and Ms. Mosely.  It was the first time I’ve ever worked with a group of people to create a final work of art, and although it was crowded working on such a tiny space with so many people, it was a great experience.  We competed with a bunch of other schools, as well as just any local artists who decided to rent out a square of pavement.  Some of the art work done there was phenomenal, and just walking around watching other people work was educational.

Our group decided to represent Beacon Charter High School by drawing out a design dreamt up from our own Mr. LeClaire that showed the Beacon’s mascot (the knight) charging forward brandishing a paintbrush to represent Visual and utensils to represent Culinary, holding a shield of the comedy/tragedy faces to represent Theater.  We made a big stencil of the outline of what we were drawing and then used a wide range of colored chalk to fill in our piece. My main input was my work on the Theater shield and some shading in the background.

We all worked really diligently and had a blast.  When all of the final touches were put in, we all stepped back extremely satisfied.  We had all created a piece that we were really proud of, and impressed with.  All the work we put into it paid off, and tons of people voted for ours to win the contest.  Even though we didn’t win, it didn’t matter to us because we knew that our work was fantastic that day.  It was a really positive experience and I’d recommend it to any visual student.
